Date Night: Pottery
Get a little dirty on Friday night! Join us at YorkArts in the pottery studio for an evening of romance and throwing on the wheel. Our skilled instructors will walk you through a few simple projects, or you are free to make your own creations. Refreshments, clay and tools are included. Recycled Glass- Bead and Pendant Making
Designed for the beginner, we provide the tools, supplies and instruction needed to create pendants and beads using recycled glass. Come learn the fun techniques used to melt glass into unique works of art. Participants will learn to cut, score, drill, and sand their pieces. The instructor will fire the finished pieces.

Join us in downtown York for a fun evening of picture-taking with your date! Beginning at YorkArts Gallery, we'll talk about a few photo basics, and then we'll head out to snap up the lovely downtown area.  We'll return and pick our favorite captures, and submit them all to a collective Tumblr blog for everyone to see.  Bring your own digital camera (with USB cable) or a camera smartphone.

Basic Applique Beading Workshop
This 2 hour workshop will teach you the basics of appliqué beading, a technique widely used by Native Americans and First Nations peoples across the continent to create incredible works of functional, wearable art. Students will bead their own designs. Designs should be brought to class on standard weight paper, drawn or printed the size of the desired product with a half inch margin. All students will be given guidelines on purchasing materials after registering for the class. You can get enough supplies to get your project started and well under way for less than $15.

Mixed Media Mosaics

Kids Sport Photography
Students will work with their equipment, shutter speeds and ISO settings and then shoot techniques to create great images of different sports. The basics are the same in almost every sport, either capturing the peak moment of action and/or the emotions of the game. One of the greatest barriers to youth sports is the lack of great lighting at night or indoors, we will discuss and work on the best options for any situation.

Taking Great Kid Pics
This one day workshop will make you a better child photographer.  Students will learn a quick overview of basic exposures, and then jump right in to taking photos of children using simple techniques in exposures and composition.  We will discuss using your environment in the frame and how to think on the fly to capture unique images of your kids. Participants should bring  a Smartphone camera or a full 35 mm DSLR.

Digital Scrapbooking
An intro to photography basics – how does this camera actually work? Environmental Art Workshop
Environmental artwork can include many materials. This workshop will focus on post consumer plastics, primarily colorful detergent bottles. These bottles are unique because of their range in color, pattern, textures, shapes, and sizes. There are limitless possibilities plastic can be manipulated through experimentation. Learn to work with the material in a safe, low-tech, and successful way. Learn excellent ways to immerse students in teamwork, community, and collaboration, all skills important in Twenty First Century Thinking.

Discover simple yet profound ways to combine yoga, meditation, and the arts to explore and enhance your creative focus and flow. Storytelling
Telling stories instead of always reading from a book, is a fun and creative way to present a story. But, like music and dance, it is an art form that needs to be practiced. Strategies and techniques on how to effectively tell a story, bringing it to life, are demonstrated, and participants will have an opportunity to use these skills to tell a story. This is an excellent workshop for parents, grandparents, teachers, speakers and presenters - or anyone involved in communicating with others.

Writing Artist Statements
There is no template for an artist statement, but there are some simple guidelines to make the writing process easier and the final product truly reflective of you and your work. Kick-Start Your Muse
This Writing-intensive class is loaded with prompts, suggestions, and inspiration to get your poetic muse into action! Finding Your Own Story

Introduction to Memoir                
In this introductory workshop, students will be asked to tap into several powerful memories in order to gather material for writing. We will attempt to understand the genre of memoir by reading excerpts from published memoirists and then discussing strategies employed within those texts. We will also practice our own prose through a series of timed in-class writings (flash or sprint memory writings) and at-home writing assignments that will focus on specific areas, such as sensory details, dialogue and structure. Since this is a workshop, students will be asked to share their written work in small groups and in open readings to the class.

Techniques and Strategies for Reading Aloud
Do you enjoy reading stories to your child? Can you bring the story to life? Reading aloud is more than merely reading words on the page; it's how you read those words that are important. You'll discover various techniques, such as expressiveness, inflection, and pause for effect in this class, and will have an opportunity to practice them. We'll also cover questioning techniques, interaction with your child, and several subtle educational aspects of reading aloud. Please bring one or two of your child's favorite books to use in class.

Photography101
Learn the workings of cameras, both digital and film, exposure combinations and ISO relationships. After learning the basics, it's all about shooting techniques and how to create images. Students will work in studio and out around Downtown York. This is a great camp for teens interested in art and photography, especially if you are thinking of either as a college major.

Advanced Ceramics
Ideal for students who have taken a pottery class in the past, the class will build upon skills achieved by introducing techniques for working on the pottery’s wheel.  This class will present step-by-step instruction on how to center, open and pull up clay to create bowls, cups and plates. Surface decoration, glazing and hand-building projects also will be explored. On the first day of class, students will discuss and decide on the project theme(s) for the session.
