Basic Applique
Beading Workshop
This
2 hour workshop will teach you the basics of appliqué beading, a technique
widely used by Native Americans and First Nations peoples across the continent
to create incredible works of functional, wearable art. Students will bead
their own designs. Designs should be brought to class on standard weight paper,
drawn or printed the size of the desired product with a half inch margin. All
students will be given guidelines on purchasing materials after registering for
the class. You can get enough supplies to get your project started and well
under way for less than $15.

artwork can include many materials. This workshop will focus on post consumer
plastics, primarily colorful detergent bottles. These bottles are unique
because of their range in color, pattern, textures, shapes, and sizes. There

this introductory workshop, students will be asked to tap into several powerful
memories in order to gather material for writing. We will attempt to understand
the genre of memoir by reading excerpts from published memoirists and then
discussing strategies employed within those texts. We will also practice our
own prose through a series of timed in-class writings (flash or sprint memory
writings) and at-home writing assignments that will focus on specific areas,
such as sensory details, dialogue and structure. Since this is a workshop, students will be asked to share their written
work in small groups and in open readings to the class.
